Calling all Tableteers
If you are visiting and own a tablet pc, I would appreciate your contribution to the Tablet PC (Tiddly) Wiki
- content is slowly trickling in and increasing but I would be most
interested to hear of links or specs of your specific tablet pc model.
Use this tiddler here to add a tiddler and just send me the resulting text - many thanks

Announcing www.tabletpcwiki.net
Announcing the Tablet PC (Tiddly) Wiki: www.tabletpcwiki.net
For a long-while now I have had the notion of getting a Tablet PC wiki together as a 'one-stop shop' of tablet PC information with definitions links etc. So I came across TiddlyWikis ( www.tiddlywiki.com ) now these are great little beasts - first of all they only consist of one html file, and the idea behind TiddlyWikis is that this single file can be moved around, emailed etc. with content being added with ease. The down-side is that the 'basic' TiddlyWiki has no serverside component - i.e. although you can view it on my webserver and make changes - you cannot alter the served version - but for my requirements that is fine - content can always be emailed (clunky but it works) ... try: http://81.5.185.34/tabletpcwiki/tabletpcwiki.html#EmailMeContent .
With the setup as it is when you are viewing the TiddlyWiki you have actually downloaded the entire TiddlyWiki to your browser, so you can "SaveAs" this file to your computer and hang onto it as a convenient help manual - and you can, of course, add your own content.
Do let me know if there is any content I can add - especially in links to Tablet PC platforms that I may have missed or Tablet PC aware applications, websites, etc.
Please use: christopher AT tabletpcwiki DOT net
Cheers

What a selection of New Tablet PCs out there!
As I go through my favorite tablet PC websites I am beginning to see
how spoilt for choice new Tablet PC devotees are in terms of picking up
a quality Tablet PC, what with HP's TC4200, Motion's new LE1600 and the Thinkpad X41
to name just a few ... I wish this selection was open to me when I
picked my first TPC (the TC1000) a few years back now ... surely this
means that the Tablet PC platform is going from strength to strength??

Rob Bushway receives his new tablet pc
Do you think perhaps that Rob Bushway was anxiously awaiting his new Motion LE1600
tablet pc? (see photo below)
He has already started to take
some photos, I am sure we will be seeing more soon and I for one look
foward to hearing more about this new offering by Motion Computing.
With this new machine, the recently introduced HP TC4200 and the
announcement of the new Thinkpad X41 Tablet PC we are really spoiled
for choice when it comes to new addittions to the Tablet PC world!

Why spend more to get a TPC ...
In another of his very astute observations, fellow Tablet PC MVP WNewquay
presents some answers to the above question in the context of setting
up a student setting off to University/College with the best possible
equipment (s)he may need. He chiefly argues that there are certain
things you can only do with a TPC: including INK annotations and
non-text notes as well as the fact that the TPC form factor is also a
big plus in more ways than one. See the full article here.

Of TiddlyWikis ...
I have recently begun to look closer at Wikis and came across an interesting variation - the open source TiddlyWiki. The definition of a TiddlyWiki is given as:
A TiddlyWiki is like a blog because it's divided up into neat little chunks, but it encourages you to read it by hyperlinking rather than sequentially: if you like, a non-linear blog analogue that binds the individual microcontent items into a cohesive whole. I think that>TiddlyWiki represents a novel medium for writing, and will promote it's own distinctive WritingStyle.
It is actually designed to be a personal thing, and consists of just a SINGLE
html file, which makes it easy for such things as a "Wiki on a Stick" -
i.e. a TiddlyWikki on a USB/Thumbdrive which allows you to carry your
personal TiddlyWiki and use it whereaveer you have access to a PC (with
a USB port). Some server-side TiddlyWikis are also available.
A variant is the GTDTiddlyWiki - or the Getting Things Done varient - after that great book of the same name by David Allen. To get going just right click and save the html file on the icon to the lright, with a name of your choice and you are away!
I would be most interested in a version that allows inking into a Tiddler!

Tablet PC Blogs
Just in case you haven't seen it yet, Layne Heiny has launched www.TabletPCBlogs.com.
This is a place where any Tablet PC devotee can create their own blog.
As of today there appear to be at least 30 blogs going - well done.

Rob Bushway embraces the LE1600 Tablet PC
Rob Bushway,
fellow Tablet PC MVP, is quite taken by the Motion Computing LE1600
Tablet PC - he is putting aside his TC1100 and has ordered his LE1600.
I look forward to seeing his review of this machine on tabletpcbuzz
soon. It appears (and I can't say that I am not surprised at this) that
it is not possible to order a TPC direct from Motion Computing here in
the UK and the UK reseller does not even list this product yet ... what
else is new! It is really hard to promote the TPC here in the UK
because for all intents and purposes they are non-existant - and one
only has word of mouth to go by when deciding to buy - forget about
being able to see and 'play' with one i.e. 'try before you buy!
